ORA-00264: no recovery required
Cause: An attempt was made to perform media recovery on files that do not // need any type of recovery.
Action: Do not attempt to perform media recovery on the selected files. Check to see that the filenames were entered properly. If not, retry the command with the proper filenames.
ORA-00264 is an informational error indicating no recovery is required for the instance. This is encountered when the instance is started, which means that the instance has just been created and does not contain any data.
The official description from Oracle is:
Cause: Instance is started without any redo logs.
Action: None necessary.
This is a normal and expected error, and no action is required to correct it. The error appears once an instance has been created, or when there are no redo log files associated with an existing instance.
To ensure the availability of the transaction data, the instance should be backed up and redo logged should be enabled. The following steps should be taken to ensure data persistence and availability:
1. Create Redo logs:
Create redo log files with a size and destination of your choice. The number of redo log files created will depend on the size and criticality of the system.
2. Configure Database:
Configure the instance to use the newly created redo logs and set the redo log retention and archival properties to suit the environment.
3. Back up Data:
Back up the instance and the data to ensure data persistence. This will also ensure that recovery is possible in the event of a failure or a restore.
4. Monitor the Redo Logs:
Set up a monitoring system to ensure any errors encountered in the redo log files are monitored and rectified.
